Let every heart…prepare Him room.
It’s such a familiar phrase.
When we are expecting guests, we prepare for them. We clean up the house, we shop for food and drinks to share, we decorate for the occasion. We want everything to look, and be perfect for their arrival.
Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean. Luke 1:26
Mary wasn’t prepared.
Joseph, to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly. Matthew 1:19
Joseph wasn’t prepared.
Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified. Luke 2:9
The shepherds were not prepared.
The thing is, Jesus showed up anyway, even though none of them were prepared for Him. They hadn’t planned ahead. They hadn’t gotten the perfect nursery decorated. They hadn’t asked for the day off work to go visit. But He showed up anyway.
Jesus doesn’t ask us to be completely prepared for His arrival. He only asks that when he arrives we open the door a crack, see who it is, and then let Him in anyway. He doesn’t care about our mess, or our lack of sustenance, or our lackluster appearance. He only wants us to make a little space for Him to come in and sit with us.
He wants to sit in our mess and let us pour out our hearts, our inadequacies, our fears, our regrets, our shame. He wants to put His arms around us and capture every tear.
He wants to take the little we have to share and multiply it beyond what we could ever imagine. He wants to turn our meager offerings into overflowing peace and joy.
He wants to throw His glory around like glitter, covering everything and making it beautiful.
So when you hear Him knocking on your door, throw it open…or just inch it wide enough for Him to slip through. Sit with Him for a while and then look around at how things have changed. He will clean the house, prepare the food, and decorate accordingly. It will be better than you could have ever imagined in His perfect way.
Let every heart…be unprepared, and let Him in anyway.

So good Diane! That’s the initial time he comes to each individual. He’s going to return to earth sometime. Jesus says be looking for him when he does.
Have a blessed Christmas.
Love this! “…let Him in anyway!”
Thank you! I need to hear this: Let every heart…be unprepared, and let Him in anyway. A great way to keep our focus on Jesus during this busy time of year.
I loved this and shared it on FB. It says it so perfectly. Thank you!
I am reminded of Revelation 3:20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
Thank you for this, my friend. We don’t have to be prepared. That was the mistake the Jewish leaders of the Old Testament made. They thought the Messiah would only come if everyone was as “pure” as possible. But He came in the middle of their mess..as He comes to us in the middle of our mess. Love Him so much.
Perfect. I don’t think most of us are ever prepared for most of our life “things” it’s a good reminder to just always be ready to open the door.
❤️ I love this reminder!
What a simple, beautifully written and thoughtful piece. 🌹
