The Good News Of The Gospel
We’ve been hearing a lot about the good news of the Gospel, but what’s it really about behind all the noise?
When someone says, “I have good news and bad news. Which do you want first?” I always say the bad so I can end on the good.
Well, here’s the bad news first…
We are all sinners. None of us can live a perfect life without sinning. I can’t even go a day without doing something I shouldn’t have done, or not doing something I should have done.
So what’s the big deal? Well the Bible tells us that when we sin we accumulate debt that we can’t pay. And the penalty for owing that debt is death.
Have you ever been faced with a debt that you can’t pay? One that is impossible to overcome?
It’s not a good feeling. It can feel hopeless, like there’s no point in even trying anymore.
This is the natural state of our hearts and souls – anxious, depressed, constantly feeling like we’re under a burden and can’t get free. We look for all sorts of things to try to lighten the load, to lift us up, but they all fall flat in the end.
But here’s the good news…
Jesus Christ was the Son of God, a part of God Himself. He was the only one who ever lived a perfect life and never sinned. He is the only one who deserves eternal life in heaven.
He lived this perfect life and then was falsely accused, wrongly convicted, beaten, tortured, mocked, and hung on a cross to die.
(I know, this doesn’t sound like good news so far, but bear with me.)
After three days Jesus was raised from the dead, appeared to hundreds of people, and then ascended into heaven to sit at God’s right hand.
Why did He do all that? Why would He agree to go through that pain and agony?
He did it for YOU!!
The penalty for our sin is death, but Jesus paid off our debt. And all He wants in return is for us to accept it. We don’t have to earn it back, pay it back with interest, work it off…it’s FREE!
Isn’t that great news?
That’s GRACE – getting the gift of eternal life in heaven, when that’s not what we deserve, by simply accepting that Jesus paid off our debt.
That’s LOVE – that Jesus came to earth specifically to die and pay your debt.
If you’ve never accepted His gift, He’s holding onto it for you.
If you accepted the gift in the past, but have put it down and walked away, He’s just waiting for you to turn around and come back for it.
If you know someone who needs this message, please share it.
If you are ready to accept His amazing gift and live debt free, or if you are ready to pick that gift back up, say this prayer with me:
Dear Lord, I love you.
I’m sorry I have sinned against you, please forgive me.
Help me to turn away from my sin.
Thank you for sending Jesus to pay my debt.
Cleanse my heart and my soul, and fill me with your Holy Spirit.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
If you prayed that prayer, go find someone else who believes in Jesus and tell them.
All of heaven is on its feet rejoicing with you!
Comment on this post or send me an email and I will be on my feet rejoicing with you too!
This is the Gospel, no more, no less. It is available to everyone. If you believe that Jesus is who He said He is, your salvation is secure.
So what’s next?
Go buy a Bible or download a Bible app on your phone.
Start reading one of the Gospel books – Matthew, Mark, and Luke tell the story of Jesus from different points of view, John goes more in depth into who Jesus was.
Find a solid, Bible believing church that teaches straight from God’s Word.
Talk to some spiritually mature believers, ask lots of questions.
Pray! You don’t have to know all the right words, just start talking to Jesus.
Salvation is just the beginning of a journey down a path that the Lord planned out for you long ago.
Here are some scriptures, taken from the New Living Translation, that will help you to see the path to salvation.
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. Romans 3:23-24
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Revelation 3:20
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13
God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:8-10
Wishing all of you blessings, love, and grace overflowing. ♥️
